Cast Iron Sourdough
-
1 cup sourdough starter (fed and active); 2 cups all-purpose flour; 1 tsp salt; 1 cup warm water; Additional flour for dusting; Oil or butter for greasing the skillet
-
In a large mixing bowl, combine the sourdough starter, all-purpose flour, and salt. Stir in the warm water until a dough forms.
Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-8 minutes, or until it becomes elastic and smooth.
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a towel and let it rise in a warm place for 8-12 hours or until it has doubled in size.
Preheat your cast iron skillet in the oven at 425F for at least 30 minutes.
Once the dough has risen, shape it into a round loaf and place it on a sheet of parchment paper.
Carefully remove the preheated skillet from the oven and place the dough and parchment paper inside it.
Use a sharp knife to make some quick cuts on the top of the dough.
Bake the bread for about 30-35 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.
Remove the bread from the skillet and let it cool on a wire rack.
Enjoy your homemade sourdough bread cooked in cast iron skillet!
Note: You can also add herbs, seeds or cheese to the dough before baking for extra flavor.
